A record number of South Australians took part in the 2018 Council elections run over October and November across 67 local councils with a voter turnout of 32.66% compared to 31.99% in the previous elections held in 2014.
Voting was by postal ballot and was not compulsory.
On 1 July 2018 important new laws for electoral funding and disclosure begin in NSW. The new laws provide for more frequent disclosure of political donations and aim to simplify processes for electoral participants in state and local government elections.
Elections are currently underway for 67 local councils around South Australia. Held every four years, voting is by postal ballot and is not compulsory. Ballot packs will be sent to approximately 1.3 million enrolled electors from 22 to 26 October with voting to close on 9 November 2018.
