The Electoral Council of Australia and New Zealand (ECANZ) today published its Statement of Intent (the Statement) concerning election management arrangements with social media and other digital services companies (online platforms).
This Statement is designed to support Australian electoral management bodies and online platforms address breaches of Commonwealth, State and Territory electoral-related laws and breaches of online platforms’ terms of service related to electoral integrity.
The Statement signifies commitment to promote and support the integrity of electoral events in Australia and has already received endorsement from the following online platforms:
- Microsoft
- TikTok
Chair of the Council, and Electoral Commissioner of South Australia, Mr Mick Sherry said “ECANZ is grateful for the stance that these companies are taking on electoral mis and disinformation in Australia and we look forward to our continued collaboration with the digital industry as we work together to promote trust in Australian elections.”
